persons) Tour Description The National Park is located in a most impressive setting in the forest-covered foothills of the Maya Mountains. The park was established in 1992 as a showcase for the region's amazing biological diversity and rich cultural heritage. A short bumpy drive will take you to a small naturalist center. Here a relaxing breakfast or lunch can be enjoyed. After this you will begin your walk through ancient rainforest along a trail that rings the lake, it is said to change color during the day. This trail will take you along some of the caves and grottos in this National Park that are just now beginning to be explored. It will also show you the beautiful white mountains of limestone and the incredible variety of exotic tropical plants such as Heliconians, Orchids and Bromelias that are surrounding the lake. Soon you will start to realize what makes this park such a jewel. To complete this wonderful experience a break will be taken to give you the opportunity to take a swim in the incredible blue and crystal clear water at the swimming area or to take a canoe and roam around on the beautiful lake. |
