Cockscomb Basin Jaguar Preserve tour

persons) Shortly after breakfast we will hit the road heading south in the direction of Hopkins Village. After a two hour drive we will arrive at the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary and Jaguar Preserve. This unique sanctuary in southern Belize covers an area of about 150 square miles tropical forest and is the world's only Jaguar Preserve. The park is rich in beauty, wildlife and Maya culture. Among the wildlife to be seen here are Jaguars, Peccary's, Howler monkeys, Gibnuts and Snakes. Keep in mind that a visit to the Jaguar Preserve may likely provide you with signs of recent Jaguar activity, but it is highly unlikely that an actual Jaguar sighting will occur. Before entering the park a short stop at the Maya Center and the entrance to the park will be made to sign in and look at the hand-made crafts displayed. The journey than continues to the entrance road, the park headquarters and the education center. At the park headquarters the car will be parked. This will also give you the chance to visit the exhibition displayed at the education center. After this short stop the tour continues on foot along one of the trails through the Jaguar Preserve. Along the trail the guide will point out the beautiful and extraordinary nature and wildlife. Some of the trails will lead to swimming areas and waterfalls where you can enjoy a relaxing and refreshing swim. These are also the ideal places to enjoy a packed lunch. After returning from the hike,the tour will head back to HammockBridge. Price: on request |
