Cayo Maya Ruins tour
Departs: Daily (Minimum 2
persons) Terrain: Smooth tropical rainforest Tour Description This tour will take you west on the Hummingbird Highway, through the country's capital city, Belmopan, and on to the bustling Cayo town, San Igancio. From here you will start exploring the first of the two Maya ruins on this tour, Cahal Pech (Place of the Ticks) Cahal Pech is one of the most fully excavated Maya ruins in Belize and shows an interesting contrast between the town and the jungle with its clusters of temples and palaces. From Cahal Pech the journey continues west to the Guatemalan border and a village called Succotz. Here a small hand cranked ferry will take you across the Macal River and a short drive will bring you to the ruins of Xunantunich (Maiden of the Rock) Xunantunich has two magnificent plazas, and a number of Mayan structures including El Castillo, the tallest man made structure in Belize. From the top of the 130 foot El Castillo you will have a sweeping view of Guatemala and Cayo.
